Jason M. JohnsonBefore joining Maduff & Maduff, Jason M. Johnson worked for the District of Columbia Office of Bar Counsel (the agency charged with addressing attorney misconduct). While there, he investigated complaints against attorneys and worked on attorney misconduct trials and appeals.

Jason received his B.A. in International Studies magna cum laude from Brigham Young University in 2000 and his law degree in 2005 from George Mason University School of Law, just outside of Washington, D.C. While in law school, Jason stood out for his skills in legal writing, in fact earning the top grade in legal writing courses. As a Writing Fellow, during his third year, Jason taught legal writing courses to first year students. While in law school, Jason worked for the American Bar Association, the Federal Election Commission, and the U.S. Department of Justice. He was also President of George Mason’s Gay, Lesbian, and Bisexual Law Association.

Jason has written for and edited publications on a variety of issues ranging from civil rights more generally to those specific to discrimination, including gender and HIV status. His work has addressed concerns of both a domestic and international nature.

Having minored in Latin American Studies, Jason is fluent in both Spanish and Portuguese and is particularly interested in issues relevant to the Latin American population, including overtime and other wage violations. He spent two years in Brazil, during which time he taught English and performed service in the communities in which he lived.

Jason’s passion for employment law stems from his work in the human resources industry prior to law school and his involvement in civil and human rights issues. As an active member of the Epilepsy Foundation, Jason has a particular interest in disability discrimination cases which can be complex and difficult. And in just his first two years with Maduff & Maduff Jason has been instrumental in obtaining millions of dollars in judgments and settlements. He has managed several complex overtime cases as well as class actions and holds primary responsibility for most of the firm’s Spanish-speaking clientele.

Jason is licensed to practice law in Illinois and before the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. He is a member of the Chicago Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the National Employment Lawyers Association and its Illinois chapter, the Lesbian and Gay Bar Association of Chicago, and the Epilepsy Foundation. He is currently involved with the creation of the National Organization for Law Students with Disabilities.
